Root Canal is no Longer a Punchline For a Quick Laugh

May 30, 2022

The term “root canal” has become part of the vernacular as a measure of pain you’d rather avoid, and a shopworn cliche used by comedians out for a quick laugh. And while our endodontist at Apex Endodontics gets the joke, we’d like to make certain that our patients understand that today’s root canal procedures are far different from the ones that provided punchlines for all those years.

The treatments we provide in our state-of-the-art office use modern techniques that are putting to rest these outdated myths about root canal.

  • Myth Number One: Root canals are painful.

Not only is this false because of today’s modern technology and anesthetics, but root canal treatment actually does the exact opposite, by providing relief from the pain of a severe toothache. Our treatments typically are quick and comfortable, causing no more discomfort than having a cavity filled.

  • Myth Number Two: A tooth extraction is better than having root canal.

As with most things, sticking with the original equipment is always the best option. Nothing can replace the natural appearance and performance of our teeth, and saving them is what root canal is all about. Our treatments are highly successful, long-lasting, and are a superior option than replacing an extracted tooth with an implant or bridge

  • Myth Number Three: Root canals make it more likely to become ill.

We sure wish this one would go away. This long-disproved falsehood that occasionally circulates across the internet simply has no basis in fact. There is no scientific evidence suggesting that our procedure can cause a patient to contract a disease or become ill.

So, let’s retire the term “root canal” from its punchline status once and for all. The treatments provided by our endodontist at  Apex Endodontics are quicker, less painful, and more successful than ever before. If you’re experiencing tooth pain, please don’t hesitate to contact our office today!
